Open to juniors and adults. Juniors and adults will be judged separately.

DIVISION 4 - Vegetables and Fruit

Growers' Choice—may include tomatoes, peppers, greens, onions, and other in-season crops. Show 3 to 5 of the same varieties that are unblemished and uniform in size, color and overall growth. Vegetables and fruit must have stems attached to qualify as homegrown.


HORTICULTURE SHOW RULES
2012 Festival of Flowers
Saturday, May 26, 2012

  1. The show is open to home / amateur gardeners of all ages.
  2. Limit 3 entries per division, per exhibitor.
  3. All entries must be fresh plant material grown by the exhibitor at for at least 3 months prior to the show.
  4. All plants should be free of disease and pests.
  5. Washing foliage is permitted, but do not use any type of surface cleaners that will alter the natural appearance of the plant or specimen. Props or other decorative items are not permitted.
  6. CONTAINERS for potted plants should be clean, unobtrusive, and appropriate to the plant.
  7. For CUT SPECIMENS, each entry should be submitted in a plain, clear vase, provided by the exhibitor.
  8. Plants must be properly named. Species name and variety preferred, but optional.
  9. Plants will be judged according to quality, appearance, form, and proportion to container.
  10. The decision of the judges is final.

ENTRY GUIDELINES

  1. Entries may be brought to the Festival of Flowers staging area at Alzafar Shrine between 3-7pm Friday, May 25 or 8-10am Saturday, May 26. Carts, wagons or dollies are permitted.
  2. Judging begins at 11am on Saturday, May 26. Winners will be announced at 12:30pm.
  3. Fee for each person entering one or more exhibits is $5. Each exhibitor will receive one coupon good for admission to the Festival of Flowers on Saturday.
  4. All entries must be picked up between 4-6pm only on Saturday, May 26. Entries not picked up before 6pm will become the property of Bexar County Texas AgriLife Extension Service. No entries may be removed before 4pm.
  5. Each exhibitor must complete an official entry form at the time of entering, or by completing it prior to the show (download form)
  6. The Horticulture Show will be attended by volunteers during all open hours of the event. The Festival of Flowers, Bexar County Master Gardeners and the Texas Nursery and Landscape Association are not responsible for loss, breakage, or damage of individual entries or exhibits.

AWARDS

Ribbons will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place winners, and honorable mention. One entry will receive a "Best of Show" award.
