"How it Works"

.

Bring up to twenty (20) live, healthy plants--indoor or outdoor-- in one gallon or smaller containers that meet the information described below. (A one gallon container is about the size of a one pound coffee can.) You will receive tickets for each plant you bring in, based on size, which you can trade in on plants that other gardeners have left at the swap booth. Plant tickets cannot be used for seeds, and vice versa.

.

Plants will be exchanged between 9am-3pm.
Remaining plants will be on sale between 3-5pm.

Rules

.

1. Bring healthy, attractive plants that YOU would take home, in a container no more than 1 gallon in size.

.

.

2. Bulbs, corms and other tubers are accepted; please have these separated into individual bags with 3-5 in each bag; more if they are prolific, less if they are large or unusual. (And yes....even though potatoes are tubers, please don't bring any!)

.

.

3. Plants MUST be rooted. Planted cuttings will not be accepted.

.

.

4. Label your plants with as much information as you have for their new owners. Plants must be labeled before they will be accepted.

.

.

5. Tickets will be given out as follows (plant size should be suitable for container--small plants in small containers, larger plants in larger containers):

1 gallon: 2 tickets
Under 1 gallon: 1 ticket
Bulbs, corms, tubers: 1 ticket per bag

.

.

6. The following plants have been requested at previous swaps: herbs, roses, xeric plants, passalong or heirloom plants. Unusual plants are always welcome.

.

.

7. The following plants will NOT be accepted aloe, prickly pear, kalanchoes (due to lack of interest by other swappers) plants that are sickly, have bugs, or are not well established plants rooted in water, unless they are water plants, in which case you must leave a container for them

.

Regrettably, due to capacity, plant swap staff will not be able to hold plants for you at the booth, or assist you with getting plants from your car to/from the swap. However, there is a Plant & Package checkroom located in the lobby of the show and carry-out assistance is available.
.
You are also welcome to bring also and carts to the to the Festival of Flowers.

Seed Swap: How it Works

.

1. Bring seed packets to the swap and you will get one ticket for each packet. Each ticket can be exchanged for a packet of seeds brought by another gardener to the swap booth. Seed tickets cannot be used for plants, and vice versa.

.

.

2. On the envelope/container, clearly print the NAME of the plant, VARIETY if you know it, COLOR of the flowers (if any), and the approximate DATE gathered (season and year will be fine). Seeds must be labeled before they will be accepted.

.

.

3. Each packet should have at least 10 seeds, unless they are extremely rare, in which case 5 seeds per packet. For plants that produce large quantities of seeds (e.g. sunflowers), please be more generous.

.

.

4. Due to easy availability, the following seeds are not popular and will not be accepted: Texas mountain laurel, lawn grass :-), mesquite, acorns.

.

.

5. Please do not bring seeds that will not breed true (e.g. hybrids).
Popular seeds include: native wildflowers, herbs, unusual, or easy germinating seeds.

.

.

6. There is no limit on the total number of seed packets, but to ensure variety, please do not bring more than 10 packets of the same type of seed per person.

.

.

Disclaimer

GVST and the Festival of Flowers cannot guarantee the viability of either seeds or plants. However, the volunteers who staff this swap have been swapping plants and seeds for several years, and have gotten some wonderful plants!
