| 9:30am"The Majestics: Landscaping with Succulents and Cactus"with Jeff Pavlat Jeff is president of the Austin Cactus & Succulent Society and a member of the Horticulture Committee at Zilker Botanical Garden. His hillside garden in Austin's Westlake community features extensive plantings of succulents and cacti. He has always liked desert plants, but became more interested in them when he began landscaping his home eleven years ago. He was looking for plants that needed little water and wouldn't be eaten overnight by deer. Cacti and succulents worked perfectly. While searching for suitable plants, he discovered the incredible variety of amazing succulents from around the worldplants suitable for both the garden and those requiring a greenhouse. Jeff's garden has been featured on PBS' Central Texas Gardener and is has been a destination on several garden and landscape tours. |
| 10:30am"Energizing Tired Landscapes"with Randy Rodgers Randy is founder and president of Blue Heron Designs. Originally based in Central and then West Texas, Blue Heron found a home in San Antonio in 1983. Always an avid gardener, Randy worked at a hometown garden center during his San Angelo high school days, and after graduating from UT Austin, began assisting a landscape design/building contractor in Dallas. Returning to Austin, he began a small greenhouse growing operation and installing landscape projects. After accepting an opportunity to work in Midland and learn about the challenges of a desert environment, he moved to San Antonio where he has worked with residential and commercial clients throughout the area, as well as on decorative concrete projects throughout the United States, Mexico, the Caribbean and Europe. Randy's presentation will inspire you to rethink your lawn and shrubs with a contemporary design of interesting hardscapes and watersaving plants. |
